New to CBD?

Chances are you’ve been hearing of the health benefits and increasing popularity of CBD from friends, neighbors, or even headline news. With so many claims about this remarkable compound, it is difficult to tell which are true and which are probably “too good to be true.” We’d like to help clear up any confusion, so you can make an informed decision about the role CBD may play in your health and wellness regimen.

CBD, or Cannabidiol, is one of several natural plant compounds identified by researchers to benefit the human body. CBD is mainly extracted from the flowers, leaves, and stems of industrial hemp, which is a type of cannabis plant that is extremely low (<0.3%) in THC, the more commonly known cannabis plant compound that can cause a “high.” CBD has no known toxicity levels, does not cause a “high,” and has never been reported to cause injury or death in regular users.

Plant compounds were among humanity’s first curatives, and the benefits of the cannabis plant have been documented as early as 5,000 years ago in Chinese medicine. Today, CBD is being researched extensively in several health arenas. While no single compound cures everything, the benefits attributed to CBD can make it seem overhyped and, frankly, difficult to believe. The truth is that CBD is not a miracle substance or a cure-all but instead acts as a “cell signaler” to help restore the body’s own natural regulatory and healing abilities.

Of the many health facts regarding CBD, these are some of the more commonly known*:

  • Acts as an anti-inflammatory agent
  • Modulates pain signaling, decreasing the sensation of pain
  • Boosts the immune system
  • Is a powerful anti-oxidant, neutralizing the damaging effects of free radicals
  • Slows cellular aging, minimizes muscle loss and bone loss
  • Protects the skin from the damaging effects of sun exposure
  • Is neuroprotective, decreasing wear and tear to the brain
  • Is anti-proliferative, slowing down tumor growth
  • Enhances sleep
  • Reduces anxiety and depression

CBD can be extracted from various cannabis plant species using a variety of methods. The method of delivery into the body also varies and is generally a matter of personal preference and specific need.

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS)

So how is CBD able to affect so many diverse areas of health and well-being? Cannabinoids, or the compounds in the cannabis plant, act on a central system in our bodies called the Endocannabinoid System (ECS), which was discovered around 1992. Researchers found that there are endocannabinoid receptors throughout the brain and body tissues and that this powerful regulatory system is responsible for helping the body maintain its natural state of healthy balance, also known as “homeostasis.”

Normally, the body produces the cell-signaling substances it needs through proper diet, exercise, and sleep. Over time, however, our modern hectic, stressed-filled lives inhibit the body’s ability to create optimal amounts of internal cannabinoids (endocannabinoids), so most people are already in a state of endocannabinoid deficiency, which can contribute to an imbalance often manifesting as fatigue, accelerated aging or even disease.

Fortunately, hemp produces a natural, plant-based substitute that fits into ECS receptor sites like a lock and key, restoring balance throughout the body and mind. In this respect, CBD supplementation can be beneficial for almost anyone, including pets!

The Entourage Effect

Plenty of credible studies have shown that the compounds in the cannabis plant activate different receptor sites, working together to multiply the positive effect on the body. Recent research indicates that a synergistic combination of CBD, TCH, and other whole-plant compounds can improve absorption of active ingredients, counteract unwanted side effects, and more evenly saturate endocannabinoid receptor sites throughout the body. For many conditions, a ratio of CBD to TCH anywhere from 20:1 to 1:1 has been reported to better control symptoms and restore function than with CBD alone. This is called “The Entourage Effect.” While you can still benefit from products containing CBD isolate, full-spectrum may have a slight advantage in overall effect for the reasons mentioned earlier; however, CBD isolate still provides powerful anti-inflammatory effect without the worry of testing positive for TCH. It is important to know whether the CBD product you are using is “full-spectrum” or “isolate,” depending on your needs.

Extraction and Nanotechnology

MediPrana promotes wellness by enhancing the best of nature with the latest technology to fully access the power of CBD. Our unique extraction process and nano-enhancement provides our customers with a clean, consistent, and potent product that is grown, harvested, and manufactured responsibly and sustainably here in the USA.

Our hemp is certified organically grown in Oregon and is then transported to Southern California, where it is extracted, nano-enhanced, and packaged in a medical-quality lab and cleanroom. We use only organic carrier (base) oils in our tinctures and sprays and source clean ingredients to add flavor to our formulas. Our lotions contain Vitamins A, C, and E to increase its antioxidant value and is free of parabens, dyes, and sulfates.

MediPrana’s Nano-enhancement process breaks down the CBD molecules into smaller sizes, increasing the bioavailability of the CBD up to ten times over similar product that has been prepared without nanotechnology.

All of our products are batch-tested by independent third-parties to ensure quality, potency, and safety.

* Note: MediPrana does not make any health or medical claims regarding “healing” or “curative” effects of CBD or any of the products produced from the cannabis plant. Our products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any health conditions or disease.
